Women’s Empowerment Focused Spring 2016 PR/Communications Internship

Past communications interns are now employed at: The Texas Conference for  Women, Shell Oil, GSD&M, Dell, Apple, Whole Foods Market, Retail Me Not, the United Nations, The Texas Hospital Association, IBM, national nonprofit organizations and top local and national advertising and public relations agencies.

Spring internship projects to include: coordinating city-wide women’s events, writing/editing newsletters and web content, assisting in national PR/marketing campaigns, learning WordPress/MailChimp/Adobe Contribute and additional online marketing and content management systems, coordinating social media with our on-staff social media manager, promoting national women’s retreats/work-life balance programs, learning financial management, marketing research/database management, designing brochures/ads, learning publishing/coaching/consulting industries and additional work dependent on the intern’s talents and interests.

Title:  Communications Assistant (communication intern)

We have been mentoring/guiding interns for more than 25 years.

Internship runs
:  January through May 31st (preferred status given to those candidates who can continue through Summer 2016);  20 hours/week.

Office location: South Austin, near Central Market Westgate. Meetings/co-working will take place at our East Austin office at Soma Vida, too.

Intern reports to:
Renee Peterson Trudeau, owner and president; and other RTA marketing staff .

Pay/benefits: Performance-based stipend at end of the semester based on contributions. Main compensation is career and networking support for prof. development, job search, resume, interview, salary negotiation, contact/referral support and career strategy coaching through Career Strategists and Renee Trudeau & Assoc. (valued at $5,000+).  Yoga/wellness/work-life balance classes and professional development also paid for.

Hours: 20 hours/week –ideally working in the office T/Th afternoons; other hours working virtually. Flexible.

Title: Communications Assistant—intern is part of a national team.

Overview: Rare opportunity for a mature, bright, professional, energetic PR/communications student to work on international women’s empowerment programs and to gain incredible high-level, hands-on experience in all facets of marketing/PR/communications. The communications assistant (intern) will be working for two companies, both owned by Renee Trudeau, a nationally-recognized entrepreneur/coach/speaker/author.

Responsibilities: Heavy project and event coordination, update WordPress site, implement social media strategies, serve as newsletter editor and media liaison, write/edit, coordinate efforts with publisher/other business partners,  develop and implement marketing campaigns, assist with small business administration, and collaborate with a virtual marketing/PR team. Other communications duties as assigned and based on ability. Training will be provided and the intern will be doing PR/communications, event and project work for Renee Trudeau & Associates (www.reneetrudeau.com) and Career Strategists, (www.careerstrategists.net) a national career planning, coaching and marketing firm dedicated to helping professionals around the US successfully navigate their career path.

Trudeau, the firm’s owner, was a nominee for the national Assoc. for Women In Communications Headliner Award. She was also a multi-year finalist in the Austin Business Journal’s Profiles in Power Awards, was the Austin Woman life balance columnist and was awarded the Mentor Award from the Association for Women In Communications. She is on the advisory board for Women in Communications, Austin, and is a past PRSA board member. Requirements/qualifications: Self-motivated, mature, organized, detail-oriented Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing or Communications, or a professional transitioning into the communications field. Seeking a candidate who is interested in women’s empowerment, who is responsible and professional and is able to take initiative and work independently. Intern will have a strong desire to learn and have good computer/tech skills. Prior office OR internship experience desired. This senior-level internship will provide the student with a wide scope of experience in every facet of marketing/PR and is a sought-after experience.
