Carin, can you tell us about your work?
I own a career coaching company called Create Your Next Career which specializes in career coaching and life balance services for women and mothers in career transition. I am also mom to my three daughters, Sophia, Kristina and Melody and have made a conscious effort to design my business around being a mother.

Why did you become a Personal Renewal Group (PRG) Facilitator?
It resonates with me on so many levels. I love being an entrepreneur and find my work very energizing, yet I find that as mothers we need to constantly be reminded of ways to fill up the well. It is one thing to know this on an intellectual level, but I love how the Personal Renewal Groups take it one step further and teach us to create our own personal self care ‘strategy’ so that it is integrated with all that we do – whether we are full time mothers, working part time or full time. It is something we must have as part of our overall wellness, so that we can continue to provide for those around us, and be happy, fulfilled and effective in our own lives.

How has the PRG work changed or affected you?
I have woven this work into my life in many ways. When I decide to take on a new project, or think about committing to a volunteer project, I really think about how this lines up with my self care and how it will impact my ability to handle my other responsibilities as a mother and career woman. Secondly, I find that I have been enjoying taking care of myself, in the same way I’d take care of my own small children. We need that now, more than ever. Our bodies and souls are craving our own self love and attention. And what greater gift can we give to our children than for them to see us taking care of ourselves? My oldest daughter loves to participate in some of my ‘self care’ rituals as well and I often think how powerful this is for her, to see this type of self care modeled for her at such a young age.

What are your favorite self-care activities?
Right now since I’m knee deep in ‘baby’ mode (I just gave birth to Melody about 7 months ago), I have chosen a few select activities that can fuel me for days after I do them. Those are: my weekly yoga class, walks in my neighborhood, my monthly entrepreneur’s circle for women, and ‘spa’ nights with my daughters.
