Austin, TX
Rhonda, can you tell us about yourself?
I live in Austin, TX and have been leading Personal Renewal Groups since 2007. I will soon be starting my fourth PRG for mothers of children with special needs. My life is blessed and filled by caring for and keeping up with my two active sons, Bryan age 8, and Dylan age 6. I am also writing a memoir about my spiritual path and journey as a mother of two children with special needs.
Why did you become a Personal Renewal Group (PRG) Facilitator?
I became a PRG facilitator because I felt called to share this message and empowering work with the mothers who, in my opinion, need it the most. I participated in Renee’s first PRG in 2003 and that experience had such a profound impact on me and my life. I am still evolving into this work and am learning so much from the moms who participate in my groups. My vision and hope is that other mothers of children with special needs will go through the PRG Facilitator training and begin leading their own PRGs. There is such a great need for this in the special needs communities throughout the U.S. and the world.
How has the PRG work changed or affected you?
Renee’s book and these sacred circles of women have touched me and my family deeply. I am certainly a more present mom and partner when I am aligned with this work and the self-care, self-love messages and practices that embody it. And even though I’m a PRG Facilitator, I was missing being “just a member” of a PRG, so I recently signed up to participate in a local group. The experience has been wonderful!
I love Jean Shinoda Bolen’s work and books—including The Millionth Circle. When I begin my PRG session with a quiet centering time and a candle flickering in the center, I look around our circle and feel all lit up inside knowing that we are a “millionth circle” and together we are “gathering the women and changing the world.”
What are your favorite self-care activities?
Nourishing activities for me include walks in nature, connecting with a friend, reading, and taking a long bubble bath when everyone’s at school or work and the house is peacefully quiet.
