Round Rock, TX
Tell us about yourself:
I live in Round Rock, Texas (a suburb of Austin). I am married and we have two boys, ages 14 (freshman in high school) and 22 (college graduate living in Virginia). I am a certified teacher currently working at High Hopes Preschool with 4-year-olds, and it is my dream job! I have been an advocate and volunteer for women overcoming trauma for many years. In 2014 I wrote and published Surviving, a book about a girl surviving trauma. I also do public speaking in this field, and have a Facebook page dedicated to helping women feel empowered, called Break the Rearview Mirror. My 14-year-old son and I volunteer with Young Men’s Service League in Austin and recently, I was recognized by SPIRIT 105.9 radio as a Difference Maker in the community.
Why did you become a RTA-Certified Facilitator?
For much of my adult life I have been involved in organizations that focus on supporting women. I joined a Personal Renewal Group (PRG) with my sister, and before the year was complete I knew becoming a RTA-Certified Facilitator was something I was called to do. I have received so much support from the RTA Facilitator who led by PRG, Sara Bogan, as well as Renee, Nicole Casey and the team. Renee provides so many resources to ensure that we can be successful. Becoming a RTA-Certified Facilitator has given me the gentle push that I needed to transition into a new chapter of my life.
How has the Personal Renewal Group Program changed or affected you?
Personally, my PRG helped me see/connect to my heart. Working through the exercises in The Mother’s Guide to Self-Renewal alongside other women helped me to make changes in my life that I otherwise would not have had the strength or support to do on my own. The way the Personal Renewal Groups are structured and run, allow women to be intimate and real with themselves and others, while connecting in a loving and compassionate environment.
What are your favorite self-care activities?
I love nature and being outside. The area where we live allows us to take full advantage of nature with long walks, trips to the park, and occasional camping. I also use breathing techniques and meditation practices on a daily basis, as well as taking much deserved dates and vacations alone with my husband.
