Anita, can you tell us about your work?
I am a partner in My Three Doulas, a Sacramento-based company. We are a group of three highly experienced and trained doulas offering childbirth classes, birth and postpartum doula support, lactation support and more. I’m the IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) of our group, and also offer HypnoBirthing Childbirth Education classes and doula services.
Why you became a facilitator?
When I first read about Renee’s program, I thought to myself, “This has my heart all over it!” I love the work I do, supporting women in the childbearing year. But there’s such a need for continuing support and empowerment of women as individuals as well as mothers—at all life stages. I was thrilled to have found this program, and am looking forward to starting new Personal Renewal Groups for moms in 2010.
How the PRG work has changed/affected your life?
My work in supporting and empowering women to nurture themselves has been ongoing since 1992. Even when I’ve felt “burned out,” I find I just can’t stay away from it! Self-care was something I learned “in the trenches.” By facilitating PRGs and supporting this important dialogue and practice, I hope to shorten the learning curve for the women who join me.
Your favorite self-care activity (ies)?
Reading (oh, my – so much to read, so little time!), Bikram yoga, and playing piano.
