(Video) Are You Comfortable Living with Polarities?
Whenever I lead retreats at Kripalu, Esalen or 1440, I love to guide my retreat participants through a mindfulness meditation from Richard Miller called welcoming joy’s opposite. When it’s over, they often share how challenging it is to hold opposite feelings at the same time. And, how strong their desire is to run from the uncomfortable feelings and marinate in the good ones. Dancing with polarities can be tricky and confusing … and exhilarating and freeing (read: Many Things Are True at Once)
This week I am sitting with the concept of embracing polarities and the gifts that come from this mindfulness practice. Here’s more:
Today I honor William Shakespeare for the reminder that “Nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” When we become too rigid or black and white about how we see things, we lose all the nuance of life.
