(Video) Why’d You Stop Doing What Makes You Feel GOOD?
I recently moved from one temporary home to another. In my old space, I would leap out of bed every morning in my pjs, walk out the back door of my cabin to say hello to the trees and wildlife and check the morning temps before I threw on my clothes and bounded out my front door for a morning nature walk. In my new space, my old familiar walking route is not as close and often I put off movement until later in the day. I recently realized my shift in my morning routine (my old morning pattern supported me in feeling really connected to nature) and paused to ask: Why had I stopped doing what made me feel so good?
I’ve been teaching men and women how to come in to balance through the art and science of self-care for more than 20 years. So often when I guide people through a check-in around their physical, emotional, spiritual and mental well-being, they’ll suddenly remember something they used to do that made them feel GREAT– a morning meditation, walking a beloved hiking trail, journaling, singing with a group, bicycling, cooking soup on Sundays–that they no longer do. This week, I invite you to compassionately re-examine your self-care practice and check out my Live Inside Out question of the week below!
What did you used to do that made you feel wonderful … but you stopped? If you feel disconnected from what you most need right now, start by reading Self-Care 101: 3 Ways to Begin. Invite in curiosity, compassion and a sense of levity (our brains love laughter!) as you explore what you may want to bring back in to your life … that temporarily slipped way. Let me me know how it goes!
